Vehicle fire at Minnipa - 14 July 2026
This afternoon, CFS volunteer firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at Minnipa on the Eyre Peninsula.
Around 3pm, firefighters on two trucks and a Quick Response Vehicle responded to reports of a truck fire on the Eyre Highway.
The driver of the truck noticed flames coming from a trailer carrying drilling machinery and called Triple Zero (000).
Thankfully, the driver self extricated from the truck and was able to disconnect the trailer from the prime mover.
Crews in breathing apparatus prevented the fire from spreading further into the trailer however the machinery was damaged with costs estimated around $500,000.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to monitor for hotspots and ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
The driver was thankful to CFS volunteers for their quick and effective response.
The fire is believed to be have been caused by a mechanical issue involving the truck's wheel bearings.
SA Police provided support on scene and the Eyre Highway was closed while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
