Update: Shopping Centre fire at Stirling - 15 October 2023

A large fire has destroyed the Woolworths on Mount Barker Road at Stirling.

The damage bill is expected to exceed 15 million dollars.

20 trucks and approximately 100 firefighters responded to the blaze which triggered an automatic fire alarm at 2:15pm supported by the Metropolitan Fire Service and other partner emergency services.

Mount Barker Road has now reopened to traffic, however, there is still a cordoned-off area around the shopping complex.

Crews managed to save a number of businesses within the shopping complex, which would have significantly increased the damage bill.

Fire investigators have attended the scene and made an initial assessment of the area, and they’ll return on Monday morning to determine the exact cause.
