Truck fire at granary in Meningie causes $120,000 damage - 29 August 2021

Shortly after 09h00 on Sunday, 29 August 2021, CFS crews were alerted to a vehicle fire at a granary on the Princes Highway in Meningie when a prime mover caught fire before its trailers could be filled with grain and animal feed.

The fire destroyed the truck and the first of its two trailers while the second trailer was damaged by the fire along with a large quantity of grain that was positioned above the trailers.

Fifteen CFS firefighters responded to the incident from their brigades in Meningie and Coonalpyn and immediately extinguished the fire.

Even though approximately $120,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire, by acting decisively the CFS volunteer firefighters stopped the spread of the fire to the adjacent facility and thereby prevented a further loss of approximately $2 million worth of stock, assets and infrastructure.

No one was injured during the incident.
