The Range Grass Fire - 17 January 2018

At 11:38am this morning, CFS was alerted to a grass fire near Pottery Road in The Range.

CFS crews responded quickly to the incident and were able to save several structures on a property which was directly threatened by the fire.

82 CFS firefighters in 18 appliances responded to the fire, with support from crews from Forestry SA.

4 bombers responded to the incident and completed 8 drops.

6 hectares of grass and scrub were burnt in total.

The initial investigation indicates that the fire may have been started by a slasher. This is a timely reminder to people undertaking these kinds of activities to be mindful of the hot and dry conditions and the possibility of fires igniting from this type of equipment.

CFS crews will remain on scene this afternoon to black out the surrounding area to prevent reignition, given the expected high temperatures forecast for the rest of today and tomorrow.
