Tarlee: Grassfire 26 December, 2017

At 12:58 this afternoon, the CFS was alerted to large, fast-moving grassfire north of Tarlee.
Crews who were working to mop-up the previous day’s fire nearby at Stockport quickly arrived on the scene.
The CFS state airdesk also immediately tasked water bombers to the site.
In total 21 CFS appliances with approximately 80 firefighters were supported by local farm fire fighting units and four waterbombers.
Gusty winds blew the fire and thick smoke towards the township of Tarlee, with six water bombing runs used to attack the head of the fire and bring it to a stop at 1:41pm.
The fire was classed as a Reduced Threat at 2:50pm, with ground crews remaining on site to mop-up the area and monitor patches of trees and scrub for further fire activity.
In total approximately 50 hectares was burned, with the fire believed to have originated from a header that was operating in the area.
