Structure fire in Lewiston - 26 September 2021

Shortly before midday on Sunday, 26 September 2021, the CFS was alerted to a structure fire on a private property in Lewiston.

Upon arrival, CFS crews found two sheds on fire with one of the sheds storing a gun safe containing ammunition. The intense heat of the fire led to several ammunition cartridges exploding whilst inside the safe. Eight CFS appliances and two bulk water carries were deployed to the incident along with a specialised HazMat vehicle due to the presence of the volatile ammunition.

The CFS firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the house, however the two sheds and their contents of vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed in the fire.

An estimated $100,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown and a fire cause investigator has been dispatched to the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.
