Structure fire in Jamestown - 31 July 2021

At 18:41 on Saturday 31 July, CFS crews were alerted to a structure fire in a business in Ayr Street, Jamestown.

Five CFS fire trucks, one CFS bulk water carrier, and three CFS command and logistics vehicles attended the scene. CFS firefighters prevented the fire from spreading throughout the building as well as to adjoining shops. It is suspected that the fire inside the building was started by a believed electrical fault.

An estimated $250,000 damage was caused to the building along with another $500,000 damage incurred to the stock inside of the business. However, by acting swiftly, the CFS crews prevented an additional estimated $350,000 damage to the rest of the building and adjoining businesses.

The CFS crews were supported by SA Police and the SA Ambulance Services at the incident.

In order to determine the exact cause of the fire, a fire cause investigator has been requested to attend the scene.
