Structure fire at Sandleton - 18 July 2026
This afternoon around 2pm, CFS volunteer firefighters responded to a structure fire at Sandleton, 15km north of Sedan in the state’s Murraylands.
Around 30 firefighters on 7 trucks with 3 support vehicles arrived to find a 1950s stone house at an animal sanctuary fully involved in fire.
Occupants were home at the time of the fire but thankfully were not inside the house.
The house was a complete loss with damages estimated at $200,000.
Crews were able to save some adjoining structures and a native curlew that was in a pen just outside the house.
Unfortunately, a pet cat and kangaroo were lost.
Due to the presence of a cellar and significant fire activity, crews in breathing apparatus continue to fight the fire defensively and will remain on scene for some time.
Fire Investigators are attending and SA Police and SA Ambulance are providing support on scene.
