SADDLEWORTH: 40 Farm firefighting units help bring blaze under control

At 2:30 this afternoon the CFS received multiple calls on 000 reporting a fast moving fire two-kilometres south of Saddleworth.

Thanks to the huge response from the local community, 40 farm fire fighting units rushed to the scene, supported by eight CFS appliances, 40 fire fighters and two water bombers.

The fire quickly burned through 40 hectares of bush and stubble before the combined teams were able to bring it to a stop.

Units actively protected the Viterra facility and southern edge of the township, with only slight fire damage reported along the outside of the facility.

Residents near Saddleworth are advised that smoke may be visible in the area for some time as crews continue to mop-up the fireground.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
