Paruna scrub fire and Tailem Bend haystack fire - December 20

 

Paruna scrub fire

At around 2pm yesterday, Tuesday 19th December, CFS was alerted to a grass and scrub fire in Paruna close to the Browns Well Highway.

70 CFS and DEWNR personnel worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon, evening and night to contain the fire by creating a control line with a skidder, which prevented the fire from spreading into nearby grassland. Firefighters on the ground were supported by 6 aircraft including 4 bombers which completed 14 drops in total. The CFS brigades which responded to this incident were: Brown’s Well, Taplan, Monash, Pinnaroo, Lyrup, Cadell, Eastern Districts, Morgan, Barmera, Waikerie, Tailem Bend, Mypolonga and Jervois.

The fire burned 316 hectares in total and the cause is yet to be confirmed, however is suspected to be from lightning strikes which occurred in the area.

As of 2pm today (20th December) the fire has been declared safe.

 

Tailem Bend haystack fire

At 4.20 this morning, CFS was alerted to a large haystack fire in the Moorlands area near Tailem Bend.

5 CFS appliances responded in total from Cooke Plains, Tailem Bend, Coorong Group, Sherlock-Moorlands and Wynarka brigades. The fire has been contained to the haystack and does not pose a threat to nearby properties.

The cause is yet to be confirmed.
