MIDDLE RIVER FIRE UPDATE - 9/2/2018

As of 11:00am today the Middle River fire has burnt through 370 hectares of grass, scrub and bushland. The forward rate of spread has been halted on the fireground, with teams now focussing on extinguishing fires in the southwestern corner (steep gullies with trees and logs) and mopping up the fire ground inside the boundaries.

Two sheds, a private vehicle and a CFS 4WD have been damaged in the fire.

Our CFS volunteers have been able to successfully defend several houses from damage, and extinguished a fire on a veranda of one property.

12 CFS appliances, approximately 60 firefighters and four aerial bombers will continue working on the fireground today, with teams from the mainland arriving this morning to give local teams who have been fighting the fires overnight a rest.

SA Police will investigate the cause of the fire.
