House fire at Port Wakefield 25 June

More than 40 CFS firefighters and 8 fire appliances responded to a house fire at Walters St in Port Wakefield north of Adelaide.

Fire completely destroyed a house divided into two separate units. Despite their best efforts, fire-fighters were unable to prevent the fire spreading into the second unit within the building.

Fire fighting efforts were made extremely difficult due to the presence of live power lines that had detached from the building and were arcing on nearby fencing, as well as the presence of ammunition that was exploding during the blaze. Crews were able to stop the intense fire from spreading to two other homes that were situated only a few metres from structure.

Dollar damage estimates have been set at $500 000 total for the two units.

Fire Cause Investigators have concluded their investigations and have found that the fire started in a dryer in the laundry. No further injuries were reported in the fire.
