Hazmat incident at Coromandel Valley - 24 April 2026
Three trucks carrying approximately 15 firefighters responded to Triple Zero to attend a hazardous materials (hazmat) incident at Coromandel Valley in the south-eastern suburbs of Adelaide at 3:05 PM today.
The incident, which was attended by two specialised CFS hazmat trucks, resulted from a gardener mixing chlorine paste and dry acid to poison a tree stump.
The gardener inhaled fumes from the chemical reaction and required treatment from the SA Ambulance Service.
The spill area was isolated and has now been made safe by CFS volunteers, who have been on scene for approximately 90 minutes.
There was no risk to other people or the environment.
Always follow instructions for proper usage and make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area before mixing household chemicals.
