HazMat at Tailem Bend - 8 July 2026
Four CFS trucks carrying approximately 20 firefighters responded to a Triple Zero call reporting a hazardous materials incident at a business on the Princes Highway at Tailem Bend, approximately 100 kilometres east of Adelaide.
Upon arrival at approximately 9:30 pm, CFS volunteers discovered carbon dioxide leaking from a slushie machine after a cylinder replacement had been carried out incorrectly.
All staff and customers had evacuated from the business.
SA Ambulance Service personnel attended the scene to assess a staff member for possible exposure to the leaking gas.
As a precaution, the business was closed until approximately 11:15 pm while volunteers worked to make the area safe.
The incident has now been resolved, and the business has reopened.
