HazMat at Swan Reach - 20 July 2026

This afternoon at around 1:00 PM, CFS volunteer firefighters responded to a Hazmat incident at Swan Reach in the state’s Mid-Murray region.

Upon arrival, crews found that 9 x 25-kilogram bags of boric acid had spilled onto the road.

After liaising with CFS Technical Operations and the Environment Protection Authority, 9 volunteers on 2 trucks, including a specialist Hazmat appliance and two support vehicles, contained the spill while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including breathing apparatus.

The spill has been contained, and arrangements have been made for the landowner to collect and correctly dispose of the chemical.
