HazMat at Barmera - 17 July 2026

This morning around 7.30am, CFS volunteer firefighters were called to a hazardous materials (HazMat) incident at Barmera in the Riverland.

A specialist HazMat brigade from Barmera responded to reports a 20L drum of paraquat dichloride had fallen from a truck, been struck by another vehicle and spilled onto the ground.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

After liaising with CFS Technical Operations and the Environment Protection Authority, 5 volunteers on one truck and a support vehicle contained the spill and ensured it was safely disposed of.

SA Police and SA Ambulance provided support on scene.
