Hayshed fire at Vine Vale - 12 May 2026

Seven trucks carrying approximately 26 firefighters responded to Triple Zero to attend a hayshed fire at 5pm at Vine Vale, near Tanunda, approximately 7 kilometres south of Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley.

Upon arrival CFS volunteers found a farm shed containing hay bales, fertiliser drums and four tractors fully alight.

The volunteers initially attempted an offensive fire attack utilising breathing apparatus before transferring to defensive techniques that ensured the fire was contained.

The exceptional work of the CFS volunteers meant the fire did not spread from the shed and that the tractors, valued at approximately $200,000, were saved.

Damage to the shed and hay bales is estimated to be valued at $100,000.

SA Police and SA Ambulance Service provided support.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but has not been deemed as suspicious.

A smoke advice warning remains active across the Vine Vale, Bethany, Gomersal, Tanunda and Seppeltsfield area, while CFS firefighters continue to manage the incident.
