Email warning subscription update

Overnight on Sunday 7 January 2018 the SA Country Fire Service (SA) email warning subscription service for warnings and incident notifications was compromised by a third party’s email service reprocessing messages.

The service was stopped while a full investigation was been conducted by SAFECOM ICT and DPC Cyber Security teams. SAPOL was also notified but there was no malicious intent.

Investigations found the unsolicited emails sent to CFS and MFS warning subscribers was the result of a third party business applying changes to their email service resulting with SPAM emails being delivered from their email service.

The email warning subscription service has now recommenced.

CFS apologises for any inconvenience caused.
