Crop Header and Grass Fire at Pinkawillinie - 27 October 2023

Just before 6:20pm this evening CFS responded to a second header fire which also spread to surrounding grassland at Pinkawillinie in the State’s northern Eyre Peninsula.

Four CFS trucks crewed with 12 firefighters attended and thanks to their fantastic efforts, have stopped the fire just north of the Pinkawillinie Conservation Park.

The damage is attributed mostly to the loss of machinery, however the fire has burnt 300 hectares of grassland.

CFS crews are expected to remain on scene to extinguish any hot spots and mop up the area ahead of tomorrow’s total fire ban in the district.

Crews will also be on scene tomorrow continuing to monitor the fireground and extinguish any hot spots.

The CFS thanks their volunteers for their speedy and tireless efforts.

With a Total Fire Ban declared in the Eastern Eyre Peninsula Fire Ban District tomorrow, we remind community members of the need to check any areas where fuel reduction burns have been undertaken to ensure the area is fully extinguished reducing the potential of rekindling.
