Crop and stubble fire, damaging farm machinery, at Yallunda Flat, Eyre Peninsula - 3 December 2023

At 4:40 pm today, crews were called to a crop fire on Yallunda Flat Road in Yallunda Flat.

15 CFS volunteer firefighters on 4 trucks, with 1 bulk water carrier attended the scene. Crews were supported by SA Police, 3 aircraft bombers, 1 Blackhawk, and multiple farm firefighting units. The CFS wishes to acknowledge the support and efforts of the farm fire fighting units, who attended this incident.

The fire burned approximately 12 hectares of crop and stubble and destroyed a farm tractor and baler machine. Total losses are estimated at $150,000.

The fire was caused by farm machinery. CFS crews will remain on scene to mop up and black out the fire.

With tomorrow being a Total Fire Ban day for the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, this incident is a timely reminder to the community not to undertake any risky activities, that may start a fire, and to be aware of the restrictions which come into force from midnight tonight.
