Clothes dryer fire triggers shopping centre sprinkler system at Blakeview
At 10:32 this morning CFS crews were alerted to a fire in shop at Blakes Crossing Shopping Centre, Blakeview, by the in-building fire alarm.
Four CFS crews, supported by two MFS crews, arrived to find a fire and smoke from a clothes dryer had triggered the buildings sprinkler system.
Neighbouring shop staff were able to extinguish the fire by using a firehose.
Due to the fire detection sprinkler system being activated, extensive water damage has been done to seven stores in the complex.
Early estimates of damages are at $40,000 however that is expected to be increased substantially once stock damages can be determined.
SES volunteers are now also on scene to assist in the clean-up.
