Building fire at Bordertown - August 16

Thursday, August 16 at 10:30pm: 

At about 8.30 tonight, CFS crews were called to the former Border Chronicle newspaper building in DeCourcey Street, Bordertown.

On arrival crews saw flames coming through the roof of the 60 by 20 metre structure.

Seven crews and 35 firefighter were on scene. Firefighters forced their way into the building, and worked inside to extinguish the fire, until it became too dangerous. From that point they worked to protect surrounding buildings and managed to contain the fire to the one structure.

The damage bill is approximately $150,000.

The cause is unknown but SA Police are on scene and Fire Cause Investigators will be attending.
