$60,000 house fire at Balaklava - 7 February 2020

At 11:30 on Friday night, February 7, the CFS were alerted to a fire burning in a vacant home at John Street in Balaklava after several 000 callers reported a fire in the house.

Seven fire trucks with approximately 30 firefighters arrived and were quickly able to contain the fire to the home and protect neighbouring properties.

The home was substantially damaged from the fire, with damages of approximately $60,000 reported.

A CFS firefighter reported minor injuries to his hand was treated onsite by SA Ambulance Officers.

It is unknown how the fire started.

Crime scene detectives will attend the scene later this morning to attempt to determine the cause.

Members of the public are advised that it is believed asbestos may be present on the site and avoid going near the remaining structure.
