$450,000 house and shed fire at Dismal Swamp - 9 October 2021

At 11:01 last night CFS crews were alerted to a house and shed fire on Wandilo Forest Road at Dismal Swamp, near Mount Gambier in the Lower South East, when a passer-by spotted a shed that was ablaze and the fire was starting to spread to a nearby house.

Three CFS and two MFS firetrucks and a CFS bulkwater carrier responded, with approximately 30 firefighters arriving on scene to find the fire had spread to the home.

The two occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate, and were seen to by SA Ambulance Services on site.

The shed, containing two cars, was destroyed, but crews were able to extinguish the fire before it spread through the entire home, but the building had been extensively damaged.

Damages are estimated to be approximately $450,000, with a Fire Cause Investigator to attend the scene later today to determine the cause.
