3-Storey Structure Fire at Munno Para - Update (14 Oct 18)

This is a follow on the up on the 3-storey structure fire at the Corners of Curtis and Peachey Roads at Munno Para on Saturday 13th October.

Firefighters and Fire Cause Investigators remained at the scene into the early hours of this morning, returning again later this morning to continue their investigations and assessments.

It has been confirmed that the fire started on the upper storey and over 50 firefighters from the CFS and MFS quickly worked together to contain the fire to the upper storey, preventing spread to the first and ground floors. It took approximately one hour to extinguish.

The V-shaped building housed four residential apartments on each the second and first levels and a number of commercial tenancies on the ground floor.

MFS crews assisted two occupants from the upper storey to escape the blaze.

While the top floor has been extensively damaged, the ground and first floors have been saved and have suffered only smoke damage. Due to the size and nature of the building, it will take several days for assessors to determine an accurate damage bill.

During the incident a CFS firefighter was transported to hospital suffering heat stress and was later released.
