$320,000 header fire at Napperby - 19 Oct 2019

Header fire at NapperbyAt 1:14 this afternoon the CFS were alerted to a fire in a header near Locks Road at Napperby.

Two CFS crews, one CFS bulk water carrier and one MFS crew arrived to find thick smoke coming from the 2014 model Massey Ferguson header.

The header was completely engulfed in flames.

Early efforts from the farmer to extinguish the fire with his farm firefighting unit were unfortunately unsuccessful, with arriving fire crews only able to stop the fire from spreading into nearby crop.

The header was completely destroyed, with its value estimated at $320,000.

With harvesting underway in many parts of the state now, this is a reminder for farmers to check and clean all machinery to avoid fires starting from mechanical failures or debris igniting in machinery.
