$1m structure fire on Kangaroo Island - 21 September 2023

Two business have been destroyed in a second fire on Kangaroo Island.

24 CFS volunteers on 7 trucks were called to a fire in the Lighthouse Café and adjoining butcher shop on Dauncey Street, Kingscote on Kangaroo Island at 7pm. On arrival crews found the building engulfed in flames, with fire breaching through the roof. Volunteer firefighters worked from outside the building to control fire within an hour.

Crews are expected to remain on scene for some time, putting out hot spots and ensuring the fire is completely extinguished.

CFS volunteer firefighters were supported by SA Police and SA Ambulance Service.

The building, which had already been significantly impacted by fire, has now been destroyed. It’s estimated the fire has caused an additional $500,000 worth of damage, putting the total damage bill at approximately $1 million. Fire investigators have been requested to attend the scene and will arrive in the morning to determine the cause.
