$1,000,000 Structure Fire at Penneshaw - 13 June 2023
CFS crews from Penneshaw, Kingscote, American River and Parndana were alerted to a structure fire at The Shy Wren restaurant on Thomas Wilson Street in Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island at 9.15am this morning.
On arrival, 25 CFS volunteer firefighters and Breathing Apparatus operators on 5 trucks found the local restaurant fully involved in fire.
Thanks to the swift response and great efforts of the crews the fire was contained to the one building, preventing further spread to neighbouring properties. Thankfully there were no occupants on the property at the time.
CFS were supported by SA Ambulance Service and SA Police at the scene.
Damages have been estimated at $1,000,000 with the building and contents considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and Fire Cause Investigators have been called to the scene.
