Header and crop fire near Lincoln Highway - 8 November 2026
At 6:30 pm today, SA Country Fire Service (CFS) crews responded to a header and crop fire near the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Old Telegraph Road, 26 km north-east of Cowell on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
About 14 CFS firefighters attended in 6 trucks, supported by 3 local farm fire units.
The landowner’s quick thinking helped prevent further crop losses, creating a firebreak around the burning header to stop the fire from spreading into the surrounding lentil crop.
Farm fire units were also quick to arrive, working alongside CFS firefighters to bring the fire under control.
The header was destroyed, with an estimated loss of $400,000. About 2 hectares of lentil crop were also burnt, with crop losses estimated at $2,400.
