Structure Fire at Penola - 30 December 2025
Around 1am, CFS volunteer firefighters attended a structure fire at Penola in the state's Lower South East.
Approximately 50 firefighters on 12 trucks arrived to find a house and shed fully involved in fire which had spread to surrounding grass.
Crews were able to quickly bring the grass fire under control and prevent it from spreading to further buildings on the property.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus, including a specialist hazardous materials brigade, worked defensively to contain the fire to the shed and house.
Unfortunately, the house, shed, and a vintage car were destroyed with damages estimated around $800,000.
SA Ambulance and SA Police were also on scene to provide support to crews.
A cause is yet to be determined and Fire Investigators will attend the scene this morning.
