Structure fire at Burra - 13 July 2025
CFS crews were called to a structure fire at a residential property in the State’s mid-north region of Burra just after 7pm this evening.
Approximately ten CFS firefighters on three fire trucks responded to a fire that appeared to have been caused by the overheating of the combustion fireplace flue. Crews worked to extinguish the fire that was spreading through the roof cavity of the house, successfully containing the fire to the roof space above three rooms.
Firefighters will likely be on scene for some time to remove the roof and ensure the fire is fully extinguished, with estimated damages of $100,000. Crews on site are supported by SA Police and SA Ambulance Service.
Although property occupants were home at the time, they had self-evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.
This is a timely reminder to remain attentive to combustion fires and to regularly check and clean flues to prevent a build-up of combustible material inside the chimney this winter.
