Hazmat incident at Wattle Flat - 07 May 2025

Two trucks carrying 10 firefighters attended a Hazmat incident at Wild Dog Creek Road, at Wattle Flat north east of Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Peninsula at 7:40 this evening.

The incident involved a fully loaded milk truck, which had collided with three diesel tanks on a farming property.

The tanker had lost brake pressure and rolled downhill into the fuel storage.
The truck did not tip over, so there was no spilt milk but the diesel containers were ruptured and approximately 8,000 litres of fuel was dispersed onto a dirt road.

The spill was contained to the road by the firefighters, who had support from MFS, SES and the property owners. Their good work prevented the spill from spreading to a nearby creek.

There was an estimated $14,000 worth of diesel lost.

The South Australian Environment Protection Authority has been notified.
