Truck Fire in the Adelaide Hills - 24 August 2020

At just before 4.30am  this morning, the CFS and MFS responded to a semi-trailer truck fire on the down track of the South Eastern Freeway between Mount Barker and Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills.

The driver of the truck escaped unharmed and was able to notify authorities about the fire. On arrival crews found that the truck, which was transporting live chickens, was well involved in fire.

24 CFS firefighters and 4 MFS firefighters took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Several chickens perished in the fire and the RSPCA are now working with the business owners to move the remaining chickens to another truck.

Two lanes of the South Eastern Freeway down track are closed and expected to remain closed for several hours.

The fire cause and damage bill has not yet been determined.
