Truck fire at Yaninee - 7 December 2025

Around 4pm, CFS crews were called to a truck fire on the Eyre Highway at Yaninee near Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula.

Firefighters arrived to find a triple prime mover carrying industrial rodent bait heavily involved in fire which had spread to surrounding grass.  

Thanks to their quick response, local Farm Fire Unit operators were able to suppress the grass fire while approximately 15 volunteers on 5 trucks contained the fire to the truck and one of its three trailers.

Given the hazardous nature of the contents of the truck, a specialist hazardous materials brigade also attended to apply suppression to parts of the destroyed trailer and monitor atmospheric conditions.

Damages are estimated at $550,000 and a cause is unknown. SAPOL also attended the scene.
