Structure fire at Balaklava - 24 January 2026
CFS crews were called to a structure and shed fire at a residential property in Balaklava of the state’s Mid North region just before 5pm today.
Approximately thirty CFS firefighters responded on ten trucks and have been supported by SA Police, SA Power Networks and SA Ambulance on site.
The property was well involved in fire upon arrival and firefighters have been undertaking defensive operations using Breathing Apparatus (BA) since their arrival on site. Crews effectively extinguished the structures; however they are unfortunately a total loss, with damages estimated in excess of $500,000.
The intensity of heat, in conjunction with smoke from the fire made for challenging firefighting conditions. SA Ambulance have assisted in the assessment and transport of five people, including one CFS firefighter who has been taken to hospital for heat-related injuries.
The cause is currently undetermined, and Fire Investigators have been notified.
