Rubbish truck fire on The North South Motor Way 19 October 2023
A rubbish pile has caught alight while inside a garbage truck carrying various plastics, vegetables and 20 litres containers of unknown substances. The truck was travelling along The North South Motor Way at Waterloo Corner north of Virginia.
To save the truck, the rubbish pile has been dropped onto the road allowing both CFS and MFS crews to contain the fire quickly. One lane of the highway was closed causing traffic delays and motorists are thanked for driving to conditions.
Due to the unknown nature of the rubbish pile, CFS Hazmat teams are also currently attending the scene as a precaution.
