House fire at Belair - 17 May

Update at 11am:

At about 8:30 this morning, CFS crews were called to a house fire on Old Belair Road, Belair.

Crews found the home alight and worked to extinguish the fire.

They reported, that had they been a few minutes later the whole house would be destroyed. However their quick work meant most of the home was saved, with about $100,000 damage caused to the $500,000 home.

There are no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire was hot ash left in a plastic bucket on the veranda. The ash melted the bucket and started the fire.

As the weather starts to cool down and people start to light their fires, CFS warns them to be careful when emptying the fire place, either wait until the ash cools completely or use a metal bucket.
