Hazardous material incident at Stirling North - 8 August 2025

The CFS were called to a hazardous materials incident at Stirling North, just east of Port Augusta at around 7:30pm this evening.

Three CFS crews, including technical hazardous material specialist crews and one MFS crew, totalling approximately 16 firefighters, responded to an incident involving a spill of sulphuric acid along the Augusta Highway.

The northbound lane heading into Port Augusta was temporarily closed as firefighters determined the severity and spread of the spill. Firefighters in appropriate protective equipment identified and diluted trace amounts of the chemical for an approximate 1.5km stretch along the highway. All roads are now reopened and rendered safe. 

SA Police and SA Ambulance assisted crews on scene for the duration of the incident.
