Grass fire at Mount McKenzie - 10 April 2022

CFS crews were called to a grass fire at a motor sport facility on Hill Climb Road at Mount McKenzie, in the State’s Barossa Valley, at 12:15 this afternoon.

Nine CFS trucks arrived on scene to find the grass fire burning in rocky and steep terrain, with numerous farm fire units and race track organisers trying to extinguish the fire.

Several experienced CFS personnel helped to manage the fire, while CFS volunteers working with farm fire units and race event organisers managed contain the fire to five hectares.

It’s expected crews will remain on scene for several hours while they mop up and black out.

The cause is not believed to be suspicious and appears to have started from a race car that was racing on the track.
