Grass fire at Alford (in the northern Yorke Peninsula)

The CFS were called to a standing crop fire at a property in the northern Yorke Peninsula town of Alford just after 2pm this afternoon.

Approximately twenty-five firefighters on five CFS trucks responded to a fast-moving standing crop fire. The diligent work of CFS firefighters on scene, with the support of multiple Farm Firefighting Units managed to contain the fire to approximately 80 hectares. 

A loss of $80,000 has been estimated; however, a large portion of the crop and surrounding assets were protected by crews. 

SA Police have assisted on scene, with Fire Investigators attending to determine the cause.
