Fires spark warning ahead of potential Fire Danger weather
Two separate fires this evening on the urban Adelaide fringe have served as timely reminders to ensure communities have bushfire survival plans in place, ahead of hot and potentially dangerous fire weather.
Just after 5pm this evening, crews were called to a large scrub fire on Whitelaw Road, Myponga Beach.
35 volunteer firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, with the assistance of 4 waterbombers who undertook 14 drops on the fire.
Then at 6pm, a grass fire was reported on Parkers Road at Gawler Belt.
36 CFS volunteers, supported Farm Fire Units and the MFS tackled the blaze, which was heading towards Nottle Road, with two houses under threat. Aerial waterbombers were able to suppress the fire with 4 drops but not before 9 hectares had been burnt.
Due to a rapid response by CFS volunteers and MFS crews, both fires were contained preventing potential threat to properties.
Volunteers are expected to remain on both firegrounds into the evening, to ensure the fires are completely extinguished and the area safe, with some backburning planned for the Myponga area.
While it has been a cooler start to the Fire Danger Season, these two separate incidents demonstrate how quickly fires can get out of control and threaten communities.
