Crop fires at Peake and Cockaleechie - 19 November 2019
Tuesday, November 19 at 7:40pm.
Just after 5pm CFS crews were called to a crop fire on the Mallee Highway at Peake.
A header started a fire, in thick crop. Seven CFS trucks and numerous farm fire units were on scene and managed to save a house and shed being threatened. However about 80 hectares of crop, worth approximately $75,000 was lost.
The fire also burned some pine trees so CFS crews are still on scene to ensure the trees are extinguished ahead of tomorrow’s conditions.
Meanwhile a crop fire was started on Cockaleechie Hall Road at Cockaleechie on the Eyre Peninsula at 5:15pm.
Quick work by CFS firefighters and farm fire units, with fire bomber support brought that fire under control after burning about 10 hectares.
