Structure fire at Taldra - 2 September 2026

This morning, CFS and MFS firefighters attended a structure fire at Taldra in the state's Murray Mallee region near the Victorian border.

Around 9am, crews were called to a fire that had started in the rear of an old church.

On arrival, firefighters on 2 MFS trucks and 1 CFS truck found the structure fully involved in fire.

With the support of a bulk water carrier and Farm Fire Units, firefighters were able to use defensive firefighting techniques to contain the fire to the structure and prevent it from spreading into surrounding vegetation.

Unfortunately, the structure was completely destroyed with damages estimated at $400,000.

One person was present at the property at the time of the fire, thankfully no injuries have been reported.

Crews will remain on scene this morning to monitor for hotspots and ensure any smouldering areas have been completely extinguished.

SA Police and SA Ambulance provided support on scene and Fire Investigators have been notified.
