Hazardous materials incident in Verdun - 15 March 2024

CFS were called to a hazardous materials incident at a postal processing facility in Verdun of the Adelaide Hills just before 8 am this morning.

Approximately seventeen firefighters on three CFS fire trucks and a command car, supported by one MFS fire truck have been managing the incident, with the assistance from SA Ambulance, SA Police and site employees.

A small container of the chemical hydrogen peroxide was spilled within the facility and firefighters are currently assessing the size and impact of the spill, with specialist technical advice being sought by SafeWork SA to manage the response.

One site worker was treated by SA Ambulance on site for minor chemical burns, but no further medical assistance was required.

CFS crews will likely be on site for the next hour or so to render the site safe and hand it back to the owner.
