UPDATE: SAMPSON FLAT FIRE

07/01/2015

The CFS is advising that 95% of the fire perimeter is contained. On-ground crews will continue to strengthen control lines and monitor the fire perimeter for some time. The fire ground is in excess of 12,000 hectares and with a perimeter of some 240 kilometres.

As our damage assessment teams have been formally assessing the fire ground we have seen a reduction in the number of buildings affected. The number of significantly damaged or destroyed houses has reduced from 38 to 32.

Currently 15 roads have been opened across the fire ground including the One Tree Hill to Kersbrook Rd and the South Para Rd. More roads are currently having mitigation activities undertaken to remove trees, power lines and debris to allow the local community members to return to their properties.

We ask residents to please be patient as we work through the mitigation activities.

Whilst more roads have been opened, the public must remain vigilant. Although these roads are currently clear, trees are known to continue to fall over roads for weeks after a fire event. Roads will still have fire resources and support agencies monitoring the fire ground.

We would like to remind residents in the fire affected area that some aerial fire fighting products may have infiltrated some domestic water supplies. These products are not harmful, for further information please go to the CFS website www.cfs.sa.gov.au

The CFS and the Bureau of Meteorology continues to monitor localised weather conditions including the thunderstorms and lightening.

The CFS also advises all residents or visitors to the areas listed above to check and follow their Bushfire Survival Plan.
