Total Fire Bans expected Thursday

23/10/2019

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is expecting Total Fire Bans throughout most of the state tomorrow.

CFS State Duty Commander, Yvette Dowling said high temperatures and winds, along with a significant change moving across the state means tomorrow will be a day of severe fire weather.

"For those areas of the state with Total Fire Bans, we are asking the community to cease any risky activities, such as angle grinding," she said.

"Farmers currently harvesting their crops should today remind themselves of the Harvesting Code of Practise. They should be monitoring local weather tomorrow and stop harvesting when conditions worsen."

As communities prepare for the Fire Danger Season, burn off activities are being undertaken.

"Even if you think your burnoff been extinguished, we ask that you check it before midnight tonight to ensure it is cold.

"With strong winds forecast tomorrow, burnoffs may rekindle and quickly get out of control so make sure you wet those areas."

Bureau of Meteorology Forecaster Mika Peace said the change forecast late tomorrow into Friday will see a significant temperature drop of about 20 degrees.

"We are forecasting hot and windy conditions before the change, and strong winds following it so if a fire has started, it will move quickly," she said.

There may be possible thunderstorms and significant dust is expected through some parts of the state.

It's important to know where you are and how to get information about a fire, should one start. Warning messages are broadcast on local radio and are available on the CFS website and Facebook page. If you haven't done your 5 minute bushfire plan, go to the CFS website cfs.sa.gov.au
