Remember restrictions during fire bans

26/09/2014

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has declared a Total Fire Ban for the Northwest Pastoral district and reminds people that the appropriate permits are required for burning in any district where a Total Fire Ban is in place.

A forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology indicating hazardous wind gusts between 90 and 120 kph across South Australia on Sunday prompted an interagency teleconference about the fire risk to the state.

CFS State Coordinator Brenton Eden said forecast conditions this weekend are likely to see additional fire bans imposed.

"Following advice received today from the Bureau, we are expecting Total Fire Bans in the North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral, Mount Lofty Ranges and the Lower South East districts", Mr Eden said.

"We understand that members of the community are proactively reducing fuel loads around their properties ahead of the Fire Danger Season, to minimise the risk of bushfire.

"However, we are asking the community to support us by delaying any burning off planned within these areas tomorrow, due to the expected weather change."

Landholders burning in an area where a Total Fire Ban has been declared are reminded to fully extinguish burn-offs by midnight tonight if they have not obtained the relevant permit.
