Hold off burn offs tomorrow

18/09/2019

With hot and windy conditions forecast for most of the state tomorrow, the SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is urging people to delay burn offs until the weather eases, and to check on burns completed from earlier this week to make sure they are fully extinguished.
"The hot weather sweeping the state tomorrow will provide challenging conditions for crews if a fire starts," CFS State Duty Commander Yvette Dowling said.
"Due to a drier and warmer than average winter we will see Fire Danger Ratings rise quickly across most parts of the state tomorrow," Ms Dowling said.
Areas of concern for the CFS include the Flinders Ranges, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, West Coast and parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges and Kangaroo Island.
"There are areas across the state that are already very dry," Ms Dowling said.
"With dry fuel loads and winds of up to 60kph tomorrow, we are asking people in areas of risk to delay any works or burn offs which could quickly result in large scale fires."
Ms Dowling said it was also very important for people who have conducted burn offs in the past week to check areas to make sure they are cool, and extinguish areas with water if the hazard of re-ignition exists.
With cooler weather expected across the state from Friday, Ms Dowling asked people to take extra precautions tomorrow.
"This is also a timely reminder to ensure you have your property bushfire ready," Ms Dowling said.
"The Fire Danger Season will be here soon, so now is the time to be prepared and make or update your Bushfire Survival Plan."
