Change to Fire Ban Ratings across Four Districts

13/12/2016

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises that due to current forecast weather conditions across the state, the Upper South East Fire Ban District has now been included in the total fire bans as a severe fire danger rating and the Mid North, Murraylands and Yorke Peninsula Fire Ban Districts have been revised upwards to Extreme for the remainder of the today (13th December 2016).

CFS State Coordinator Yvette Dowling said, "The change in rating has come about due to higher than expected weather conditions across the area, with stronger winds and warmer temperatures than what was originally forecast"

"This is a reminder to the community that whilst the conditions were originally rated as very high for the Upper South East and Severe for the Mid North, Murraylands and Yorke Peninsula, we are in the Fire Danger Season and the community as a whole should be prepared for any conditions and have a Bushfire Survival Plan" State Coordinator Dowling said.

"We are also encouraging farmers to ensure they know and adhere to the fire regulations and harvesting code of practice. There are strict controls on the use of certain machinery and equipment in the open, which will remain in place until the end of the Fire Danger Season".

It is critical that people working on the land exercise caution when operating machinery and put appropriate precautions in place, and obtain the necessary permits.
