CFS VOLUNTEERS AWARDED FOR SERVICE COMMITMENT

29/08/2013

SA Country Fire Service (CFS) volunteers from the Mid North, Clare Valley and Yorke Peninsula areas of South Australia will be recognised for their service to the CFS at an awards ceremony held in Gawler tomorrow night.

Twenty long-serving members of the CFS will be awarded a National Medal or Clasp, which recognise long and diligent service by members of an organisation that help communities during a crisis.

CFS Chief Officer Greg Nettleton will also be presenting over 30 Chief Officer's Training Awards, which acknowledge brigades that have achieved a high standard of training participation.

"These awards form an important part of the CFS culture," Mr Nettleton said.

"They reflect the genuine commitment and loyalty that CFS volunteers have towards protecting their communities and ensure that their efforts do not go unnoticed."

Three of the Brigades receiving a Chief Officer's Training Award have received this award each year since its inception in 2004.

The National Medal is a prestigious medal that was established in 1975, as part of the Australian Honours system.

Nominations for National Medals are made by the Chief Officer of an organisation that meets criteria of protecting life and property at some risk to its members.

Fifteen years eligible service is necessary to qualify for the Medal, with clasps being awarded for 10 years' of service with the CFS.

"I am looking forward to presenting these awards to some very deserving recipients whose contributions to the CFS and more broadly to this state are noteworthy," Mr Nettleton said.

The awards ceremony will start at 7pm at the Gawler Arms Hotel, Gawler on 30 August 2013.

Media are invited to attend the presentation which is scheduled to conclude at 9pm. Details of the award recipients can be made available to the media by request.
